Hitting the G-Spot in Google Local & Maps

Posted January 17th, 2008 by SEO Class Admin

Geotargeting and Local Search and Mobile Search and Google Maps, Yahoo Local

By Geo targeting your search terms and web site you can convert drive by traffic into actual physical customers. If for example you are a pizza place you will want to make sure your site’s keywords are geotargeted as well as easily found and ranking well in local search results such as maps.google.com. Having prominent placement in these local geotargeted results will mean more foot traffic and higher sales as well as stronger corporate internet branding. A company will be seen as the market leader within a given area when all searches in that city or area lead to them. The idea is to be found whenever someone is searching for you.

Here is a good guide to what we are going to name: hitting the G-spot in Local Search :) Enjoy!

Guide to Improving Local Search

Local Search Optimization Criteria

Keep in mind there is constant evolution in the local search domain and one must keep up with it to stay ahead.

Why is Local and Mobile Search Optimization important?

Outlook for local mobile search?

  • Projected to be 900 million global users by 2011
  • $920 million dollars in revenue by 2011
  • Exponential growth in mobile devices and mobile users and improved speed and technology
  • Major advertiser migration led by Travel/Entertainment/Adult
  • Physical retailers/bars/restaurants will be able to broadcast promotions to those opted in based on proximity using bluetooth and such mobile messaging devices
  • “Free”- ad supported mobile phone service by some such as (Google in some patents they are filing)

So basically you need to be on top of this area and focus on local geotargeted internet marketing and mobile internet marketing strategies that will strengthen your brand and help searchers find what they are looking for and in essence hit the G-spot and make em beg for more :)

4) You will find to the far right the number of reviews which is good to look into and where they are coming from and try to get your customers to review you there as well.. hopefully in a good way :)
5) click on the link in the local search result and go to the site and see how the site is broken down. It seems a good way is to have separate pages for each location with the address as a hyper link and the title of the location page containing the address as well.

6) check in bound links IBL and make sure some of then link to your site using your address in the link text as well as even possible having your address in their page title with the correct geographic (geotargeted information).

7) Also make sure the address is not an image etc so that search engines can see it properly and include landmarks in your description or directions such as highways and downtowns etc to help users and search engines locate your business.
